About this dataset
This study examines the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into Irish social welfare and child protection services and its implications for social work practice. Irish public services, including the Department of Social Protection (DSP) and Tusla, are increasingly considering AI-driven tools such as predictive analytics, automated eligibility assessments, risk scoring systems, and chatbots to manage rising caseloads, service delays, and staff shortages. While these technologies may improve efficiency, resource allocation, and early intervention, they also raise ethical and professional concerns regarding algorithmic bias, privacy, transparency, accountability, and the erosion of relationship-based practice.
